According to a PIB release, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, K H Muniyappa Minister of State for Railways said that quality control professionals have been engaged by Indian Railways for conducting inspections to ensure that quality food is being served onboard trains. Quality of cleanliness in coaches is being checked by supervisory staff on trains during the maintenance of trains in coaching depots.

In all, 78 quality control professionals have been deployed for monitoring the quality of food by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in trains. An ‘On Board Housekeeping Scheme’ has been introduced in select trains, to carry out frequent cleaning through escorting staff provided by professional agencies. This is to be super checked by the ‘Executive Housekeeper’ of the concerned agency.
